Capitalizing on middle schoolers’ increasing interest in world affairs, Kingswood Oxford is hosting its third annual Model UN for Middle Schools on Saturday, March 21 from 8:30 a.m. to-4:30 p.m.
All middle schools throughout the state are encouraged to register for the conference, which will introduce students in grades 6, 7 and 8 to global problems and the challenge of working collaboratively to solve them.
Registration, which is first come, first served, closes on Dec. 15; to register, go to www.kingswoodoxford.org and click on the KOMUN button.
Delegates must be sponsored by their school, and all delegations must include an adult; registration is $50 per school and $30 per delegate.
No prior Model UN experience is needed for KOMUN, and parliamentary procedures will be taught that day. Each school will represent an assigned country in various mock UN committees, such as the Security Council, the UN Environment Programme, the World Health Organization, and the UN Commission on Human Rights. The day will include lunch and an awards ceremony.
