The Kern Park Association of Bristol will hold a “trail maintenance and clean up” Saturday, May 2.
“Kern Park is 29 acres of wetland habitat rich in bio-diversity,” explained Mary Rydingsward, Kern Park Association co-chair in a press release. “The Association maintains f main trails and several side paths throughout the 29 acres of wetland.”
“The wetlands of Kern Park are vital to preventing flooding throughout the Ivy Drive School neighborhood and along Route 6. Acting as a natural sponge, wetlands store up to 1.5 million gallons of water per acre and serve as a natural filter, purifying water that flows into our drinking supply,” said Chet Reed, president of the Pequabuck River Watershed Association, co-sponsoring the event, in a press release.
The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Volunteers should meet at Ivy Drive School between 8 and 8:15 a.m.
