The Bristol Water Department issued a press release about a possible scam.
The release said:
“This morning a customer brought to our attention that he had been contacted by someone who claimed to be in the Cancellation Department representing the Water Department. The individual said the customer owed for a meter and needed to make a payment immediately or their service would be terminated.
“The Bristol Water Department never calls customers to collect payments, nor do we send people to homes to collect funds. Customers who wish to verify with the Water Department the authenticity of any individual who contacted them can call the office at (860)582-7431.
“The Bristol Police Department, the mayor, as well as the Board of Water Commissioners have all been made aware of this situation.
“The Bristol Water Department strives to continue to bring the highest levels of service to all our customers. If you should have any questions or concerns, please contact our office at (860) 582-7431.
