Located in Forestville, American Legion Post 209 capped its first year with a Christmas carol sing at Village Green and Sheriden Woods. American Legion Post 209 of Forestville began with a temporary charter in December 2014, obtaining a national charter in April, 2015. The Legion’s family first event was the Kids Fishing Derby in May, held at Rockwell Park. Post 209 led the Memorial Day parade in Forestville. In September, Post 209 sponsored the Bingo Night at the Rocky Hill Veterans Home. In November, members attended a dedication to veterans at Quinlan Park in Forestville, veterans appreciation coffee hour at Manross Library, as well as functions at various other locations during the day. Meetings are conducted the third Monday of the month at Asbury Methodist Church in Forestville. Donations are collected each month for a specific charity such as the Backpack Program, A.R. F. of Terryville, St.Vincent DePaul, Prudence Crandall Woman’s Shelter and the Food Pantry. Post 209 also purchased two card tables and eight folding chairs for the Rocky Hill Veterans Home. Tim McCleod of Post 209 is instrumental in conducting a Santa’s Village during the Yankee Peddler Arts & Crafts week-end held at Asbury Methodist Church. Members of the Legion donated their time to assist in Santa’s workshop. American Legion Post 209 is a full family post consisting of veterans, auxiliary, Legion Riders, and Sons of the Legion. The purpose of this post is veterans and members helping veterans and families, community involvement and improvement, and supporting the military.
