The Mayor’s Office announced in a press release the Bristol Development Authority has approved a Letter of Intent with AMKO LLC, an aerospace manufacturer based in Berlin, Conn. to relocate to the Southeast Bristol Business Park.
The release said AMKO plans to buy and develop Lot no. 5 of the popular business park by constructing an approximately 12,000 square foot, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.
“AMKO is a great example of the type of skilled aerospace manufacturing shops that are the backbone of Bristol’s economy,” Mayor Ken Cockayne said in a press release. “AMKO will be a great addition to Bristol by offering new tax revenue and quality employment opportunities to the many skilled machinists and other talented local residents who work in the manufacturing sector.”
Certified to the AS9100C and ISO 9001:2008 levels, the release said AMKO currently employs six full-time employees and expects to double its workforce following its move to Bristol. The company also plans to invest in new machinery once it has adequate space to do so.
“Our growth over the past few years has been dramatic,” said Walter Czupryna, owner of AMKO, according to the press release. “We have outgrown our current facility and want to build a new building in a community that supports manufacturers. It is clear that Bristol offers great incentives for manufacturers and has a talented workforce that can help AMKO continue to grow.”
Lot no. 5 covers approximately 2.3 acres, with an asking price of $162,000, and is located across from the new GMN USA building on Lot #4 of the Southeast Bristol Business Park. Along with GMN USA, AMKO will join CMI Specialty Products, Precision Threaded Products, and the new PODS distribution facility to be constructed off Middle Street.
“The City has made a concerted effort to promote and sell the building lots in the Southeast Bristol Business Park,” said Justin Malley, executive director of the Bristol Development Authority, in the press release. “We’ve experienced considerable success in recent years, and we’re honored to welcome AMKO as the latest respected company to relocate to the Business Park.”
