On Wednesday, State Representative Whit Betts (R-Bristol, Plymouth) paid a visit to Bristol Preschool’s West Street location to participate in Read Across America Day.
In honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, Betts joined in the nationwide celebration by reading the popular “Green Eggs and Ham,” “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish,” and “Fox in Socks” to Ms. Girardin’s and Ms. Lagueux’s Room 2 preschool class.
“What a tremendous way to start my day, with the bright and energetic youngsters at Bristol Preschool,” said Betts in a press release. “It was such great fun to spend the time with them reading some of the popular Dr. Seuss classics. The importance of reading to children cannot be understated as they continue their learning and development. Today’s birthday celebration in honor of Dr. Seuss is a great way to capture imagination and inspire children to continue reading.”
According to their website, the National Education Association seeks to build a nation of readers through its signature program, NEA’s Read Across America. Now in its 19th year, this year-round program focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources.
