The Plainville Choral Society has received a sponsorship of $750 from the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain to stage the Gilbert and Sullivan comedies “Pirates of Penzance” and “Iolanthe”, both in shortened versions, on Friday and Saturday, May 13 and 14 at the Plainville High School.

The grant was one of the “Community Sponsorship Awards” given to nonprofit groups in the arts to make their communities better places to live.

“We were delighted” said Lola Wishart, president of PCS, reported a press release. “Bringing live concerts and musical theater to the Plainville area enriches everyone who participates either as a singer or a member of the audience. There is something special about being in the same auditorium with the performer. It’s wonderful.”.

“Pirates of Penzance” is one of the most famous of the Gilbert and Sullivan comedies. “Iolanthe” is also a well known comedy.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14 at the Plainville High School located on Robert Holcomb Way, Plainville.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door and are available from any cast member and from the following ticket outlets: Cheryl’s Hair Salon, Dancingly Yours, Family Barbershop, Saint’s Restaurant, Plainville Senior Center and Irene’s Culinary (Forestville).

More information and tickets are available at pcsmusic.org.
