Some parts of the eastern seaboard will see up to a foot of snow, reports AccuWeather. The storm has cancelled many air flights, so check with your carrier.
AccuWeather Global Weather Center — 21 January 2014 – AccuWeather.com reports a snowstorm sweeping the mid-Atlantic and Northeast on Tuesday is bringing accumulations between 6 inches and 1 foot to Washington, D.C., New York City and Boston.
The snow could stretch from northern Maine to as far south as Charlotte and Raleigh, N.C., causing slick roads and slowed travel on major interstates, including I-95, I-81 and I-77.
For part of the mid-Atlantic, such as the District of Columbia and a large part of Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and southeastern New York state including Long Island, this could unfold to be the biggest snowfall of the season so far.
Flight delays and cancellations are mounting in major eastern travel hubs. Already, Tuesday morning, hundreds of arrivals and departures were cancelled along the East Coast.
Colder air will bring gusty winds and blowing and drifting snow, limiting visibility Tuesday..

11:16 a.m. EST Tuesday: The worst conditions through the afternoon hours will stretch from Washington, D.C., up through NYC, along the I-95 corridor, according to AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Dan Depodwin. Road conditions will quickly deteriorate in these areas and strong winds will cause blowing and drifting snow.
10:48 a.m. EST Tuesday: Snow is falling at a rate of 3 inches per hour near Gary, Ind. Traffic is backed up due to winter conditions and near zero visibility on nearby I-90.
10:24 a.m. EST Tuesday: Due to current weather conditions, PennDOT has reduced the speed limit to 45 mph on the following roadways in Pennsylvania: I-80, I- 78, PA 33, US 22, I-380, I-176, US 422, US 15, US 22, PA 30, US 322, I-81, I-83, I-283, PA 581, US 1, PA 63, I-76, I-95, PA 309, US 422, I-476, I-676, PA 30, US 202.
10:02 a.m. EST Tuesday: In total, more than 1,500 arriving and departing flights are canceled out of La Guardia, Philadelphia, Newark and JFK International Airports Tuesday.
9:44 a.m. EST Tuesday: The Indiana Department of Transportation reports difficult road conditions into Indianapolis on Interstates 70, 65, 69 and 74, warning of blowing and drifting snow due to strong winds.
8:25 a.m. EST Tuesday: Moderate snow and ice conditions reported on roadways throughout the Cincinnati area.
8:07 a.m. EST Tuesday: All Washington, D.C., public schools and administrative offices are closed today. All after school programs, athletic events and evening programs have also been cancelled.
7:51 a.m. EST Tuesday: All federal offices in the Washington, D.C., area are reported closed Tuesday.
