Thanks to the Bristol Rotary Club’s financial support over 100 children and adults traveled to the Witch’s Dungeon at the Bristol Historical Society on Columbus Day to enjoy an afternoon at the longest running classic movie museum in the country.
Guests were greeted by historical society member, Bob Adamczyk, who explained the extensive collection of movie props that are owned by the creator of the museum, Cortlandt Hull. Before entering the Dungeon, Tom Dickau, past president of BHS, explained that Zenobia the Gypsy Witch, the mascot of the Dungeon, was a creation of Cortlandt Hull, and that his mother, Dorothea designed her clothing and accessories, with voice recording by June Foray, known also as the voice of Cindy Lou Who in “The Grinch.” Children were delighted as they watched her stir a potion in a large caldron. He also discussed the creation of the museum 50 years ago, as well as, addressing a variety of questions.
Carmilla Karnstein (Jodi Dickson) and Farnsworth the Butler (Rob Lansley) then guided the groups through the Witch’s Dungeon utilizing an interactive child oriented approach, explaining the characters and settings, in addition to answering questions.
The guests were then treated to a variety of reel-to-reel classic cartoons hosted by Cortlandt Hull, while they enjoyed their free popcorn and soda.
Other members of the Bristol Historical Society who assisted with this event were Eleanor O’Rourke, Mary Houle, Rita Houle, Lucy and Nancy Krueger and Mary Stokosa.
