The design and textile students of the Academy of Art University took over the runway at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center in New York on Sept. 6. The annual runway show is a treat because the students offer designs that push the limits of fashion rather than merely present what the buyers and customers want to see for the next season. The show usually attracts the fashion forward pundits of New York as well as celebrities such as Nigel Barker, host of the ‘The Face’ and former judge on ‘America’s Next Top Model;’ J. Alexander, model guru and current judge on “American’s Next Top Model,” and Alex McCord of ‘Real Housewives of New York. Here are some of the designs the students at AAU presented to the packed crowd at the tents in Manhattan.
