State Rep. Whit Betts (R-78) met with student members of the Plymouth Local Prevention Council
to discuss their involvement and contribution to substance abuse prevention in Plymouth and Terryville.
LPC student members from Terryville High School, along with LPC Project Coordinator Chris Perkins, had the opportunity to talk with Betts about legislation pertaining to substance use or abuse that directly or indirectly impacts their community and their mission.
“The work being done by groups such as the Plymouth Local Prevention Council is essential in helping to raise awareness and educate communities about the dangers of substance misuse and abuse,” said Betts, according to a press release from his office. “I applaud the efforts of these highly motivated individuals who are proactively working to prevent substance abuse, particularly among their peers. It was clear from speaking with the students that they are all very passionate about their work and knowledgeable about the issues. It is encouraging to see our youth working to make a positive impact in the lives of their families, friends, and the greater community.”
Plymouth Local Prevention Council works to increase public awareness focusing on the prevention of youth alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse, and stimulate the development and implementation of local substance abuse prevention activities targeting youth.
