Three Bristol schools will be sporting new athletic equipment thanks to a donation from ESPN.

Bristol Public Schools is in the process of accepting a donation from ESPN that would give two professional-grade portable outdoor basketball hoops that are being placed at Hubbell and Edgewood Schools, said Bristol Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ellen Solek during a recent Board of Education. In addition, the grant will bring two sets of four row outdoor metal bleachers that are being installed at Greene-Hills School.

All of the equipment is currently being stored at Chippens Hill Middle School until school maintenance staff has an opportunity to complete the installation, said Solek.

“The generosity of ESPN continues within our community, and certainly within our schools,” said Solek.

Diane Lamb, vice president of communications at ESPN, said making these kinds of donations to students is just one major way that the company gives back to the community.

“Whenever the opportunity arises to share athletic equipment, we assess the needs in the community to determine where we donate,” said Lamb.  “Providing kids access to sports is one of the key pillars of our citizenship efforts.”espn-logo
