The Charity Cycling Challenge, Inc will host its 2nd Annual Swing Fore Special Olympics Golf Tournament on Saturday, May 31 to raise money to benefit the Special Olympics of Connecticut.
The event will be held at the Southington Country Club in Southington. The event will include an 18 hole scramble, continental breakfast, luncheon, dinner, cart, and beer / snacks on the course. Prizes will be awarded for closest to the pin, longest drive, team championship gifts, and the hole-in-one prize will win a car (valued at $30,000). Registration will begin at 11 a.m. and a shotgun start at noon.
Organized by the Charity Cycling Challenge, Inc., the event is part of an annual campaign to raise funds and awareness for one of many charities supported by the group. The mission of the CCC is, “Making a difference to benefit the community while promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.” In 2012, the CCC’s efforts were recognized by the Central Connecticut Chamber of Commerce and were awarded the Health Care Services Award. The 100 percent volunteer driven organization dedicates countless hours to a variety of events throughout the year and recently added the Golf Tournament to its portfolio of events.
In 2013, the CCC raised $6,800 for the Special Olympics of Connecticut and additionally raised over $52,000 for various charities.
Special Olympics of Connecticut provides year round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympic athletes and the community.
